Baby Sitter (Un Maledetto Pasticcio) (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack In Full Stereo)
Artists: Francis Lai
Digitmovies is proud to reissue on CD the OST in full stereo by Francis Lai for the dramatic thriller “Babysitter – Un maledetto pasticcio” (aka “La baby sitter”, “The Babysitter”) an Italian-French-German co-production directed by René Clément in 1975 and starring Maria Schneider, Sydne Rome, Vic Morrow, Nadja Tiller, Robert Vaughn, Armando Brancia, Renato Pozzetto. A young girl unwittingly becomes part of a kidnapping plot involving the son of a movie producer she is babysitting. The kidnappers happen to be former business partners of the son’s father and want to exact some revenge on him. Our babysitter must bide her time and wait to see what will become of the son and herself, while the kidnappers begin to argue amongst themselves, therefore placing the kidnapped victims in great peril. The Academy Award winner Francis Lai is one of the most celebrated names in the film music world and the author of famous soundtracks such as ” A Man and a Woman”, “Love Story”, “Vivre pour vivre”,”Bilitis” and many others. For “Babysitter” Lai has written one of his most beautiful scores. In 1975 RCA in Italy released a vinyl album (TBL1 1179) which was then reissued on LP in Japan (RVP-6017). Only in 1994 the same material was reissued for the very first time on CD (BMG Victor BVCP 1044) in Japan, a disc which is very hard to find today so that this new edition is our first and foremost Italian CD reissue(41:49). It will give all fans the chance to listen to an OST that really deserved it to be rescued in digitally restored and remastered sound. Besides the original album stereo mastertape, in the RCA archives we have found the stereo mastertapes of the sessions conducted by Christian Gaubert: The music in the original album actually contains all the music of the movie except small takes of electronic effects functional within the movie itself and for this reason we did not enclose them here, but on the other hand we have discovered an unreleased vocal version of the main theme. Francis Lai has written an orchestral score where a romantic, but very sad adagio theme appears (Tr.1), mysterious/romantic music for harpsichord, guitar and strings (Tr.2), pop elements in a tensive mood (Tr.3), dance floor music for the character of Ann (Tr.4), progressive tonalities for the aggression scene (Tr.5), the main theme reprised for solo piano (Tr.6), atmospheric music between pop and religious in Tr.7, a sad theme with pop flavour for orchestra and choir (Tr.8) and the unreleased version sung by a female singer (tr.9). “Babysitter” is a another good example of the big romantic vein of Francis Lai, an author who really deserved this reissue on CD.
