Napoli Si Ribella (Original Soundtrack In Full Stereo)
Artists: Franco Campanino
Digitmovies releases for the very first time on CD, as volume nine of the series dedicated to the Italian Police movies, the complete OST in full stereo by Franco Campanino from the movie “Napoli si ribella”(Aka “A Man called Magnum”) directed in 1977 by Michele Massimo Tarantini and starring Luc Merenda,Enzo Cannavale,Claudio Gora,Sonia Viviani,Adolfo Lastretti, Marianne Comtel. The movie tells the story of commissioner Dario Mauri(Merenda) who always fights actively against crime. He must face the slimy Domenico Laurenzi (Lastretti), who is always defended by smart lawyer Cerullo (Gora) and who with his criminal acts keeps under control a whole city and is never scared by the law. At any risk commissioner Mauri wants to obstruct the steadily growing power of the delinquent and he is helped in his exploits by the good marshal Capece (Cannavale) so that at the end, after murders and sensational developments, thanks to the policeman justice will triumph. The OST has been written by Franco Campanino, a musician who has composed scores for the cinema like “I guappi ” (1974) and “L’ambizioso” (1975) by Pasquale Squitieri, “Lettomania” (1976) by Vincenzo Rigo, “Stringimi forte papà” (1977) and “L’insegnante viene a casa” (1978) by Michele M.Tarantini. In 1977 Cinevox Record had issued a 33 rpm vinyl album (MDF 33/114) with nine tracks in stereo. For our new CD we have used the stereo master of the original album and we have discovered in the complete master tapes four alternate takes in stereo. Franco Campanino has composed an OST that musically perfectly describes all the facts told in the movie: On the one hand there are adrenaline-like action themes for commissioner Mauri like the main theme “Napoli si ribella” with its cool disco funky sound, with latin rhythmics and with some Italian flavour as to the melodic development (Tr.1), for chases and manhunt scenes (Tr.3,Tr.7,Tr.8), on the other hand a nostalgic theme with a typical Italian flavour for the unlucky character of Rosa (Viviani), the nightclub showgirl who will be found on the ground of a yard towards the end of the movie (Tr.2,Tr.6,Tr.9). The original album program is followed by the three film versions of “Napolisi ribella”, “Rapina alla banca”, “Inseguimento” (Tr.10,Tr.12,Tr.13) and the alternate take of “Disegni di bambina” (Tr.11), a piano solo of the “Tema di Rosa” discovered in the session tapes.
