Digitmovies is glad to release for the first absolute time on CD the complete score composed and conducted by Spanish composer Adolfo Waitzman for the noir cult movie “Pensione paura” (aka La Violación de la señorita Julia) directed in 1977 by Francesco Barilli(famous for his other 1973 cult “Il profumo della signora in nero”). Adolfo Waitzman (born in Buenos Aires in 1930 and passed away in 1998 in Madrid) Maestro Waitzman was a serious composer who loved the experimentation of new sounds besides the usual orchestral techniques. Although not so much known among the film Music fans, he demonstrated to be an highly talented composer writing this such beautiful score for “Pensione paura” dominated by the Main theme divided in two parts: first a rhythmical Progressive Music styled theme and then a very sad – lyrical motiv for piano and strings that is reprised often in the score giving a sense of mystere and repressed despair. The terror side is musically represented by a variety of atonal pieces of music. A kind of homage to Bernard Herrmann is given by very acute strings that recall the claustrophobic atmosphere of “Psycho” . Mr.Waitzman’ s Argentinian roots are clear on the two tango tunes called “Suzanne” . A jewell of film score that is finally rescued from a limbo thanks to the great cooperation of C.A.M.
